Like almost everyone, I never thought about saddle fit and its impact on my horse. But you don't know what you don't know! So this is your opportunity to pick my brain, and understand WHY saddle fit is important and how it can help improve your riding AND your performance!
I have a ZERO TOLERANCE for the judgment of others and want my sessions to be open, honest, and beneficial for everyone!
Yes, bones are first! Why? Because we need to understand what holds our saddles, and us(!), on the horse.
Let's delve into what bones are important to us and why.
These muscles lay close to the skin and are the first impacted by pressures, pinching, rocking and bridging. We'll discuss where these muscles are in real life and how you can palate to look for pain.
These are the larger muscles that lay closer to the skeleton in most cases. They assist in locomotion, support weight, support the organs, and provide power to the movement.
General unwillingness to move or perform
Muscle atrophy * Girthiness / Biting
Bucking * Chair Seat
Sore Hips/Knees/Back
Easier said than done, unfortunately! Every brand has different tree shapes, widths, bar angles, seat shapes, rigging points, and more. Trial and error is long (and painful!), so working with a saddle fitter can make this process easier and usually less expensive!
